The Next Stage is open to national and international theatre and dance practitioners. Over 18 immersive days participants are exposed to world-class art, talks with renowned directors, producers and artists and master-classes and workshops led by leading theatre-makers. Past workshop leaders and speakers include Gunilla Heilborn, Michael Keegan Dolan, Bruce Gladwin, David Greig, Enda Walsh, Tim Crouch, Ramin Gray, Kate Valk, Thomas Ostermeier, Ruth Little, Susannah Tresilian, and Ruwanthie de Chickera. The Next Stage also creates valuable opportunities for enriching engagement with visiting artists, with past programmes sparking successful artistic collaborations.
Participation in the 2017 programme is by application only, from 26 July.
About the Next Stage
The Next Stage is the theatre artist development strand of Dublin Theatre Festival. This challenging and immersive programme, spanning all 18 days of the Festival, immerses artists in the Festival programme as well as giving access to an array of renowned theatre makers and artists in a packed schedule of talks, interviews, group time and workshops. It has been lauded by previous participants as “a rare amount of inspiration” and “career changing”.

The programme of activities of The Next Stage includes:
- Seeing all the shows in the Festival (20+)
- Taking part in Talking Theatre events (pre and post-show discussions)
- Participation in daytime workshops (length varying from half day – several days)
- Interviews
- Question & Answer sessions
- Specialised talks with guest speakers
