Role summary

The NCH Discover Executive provides key support to the NCH Discover Manager and Head of NCH Discover and plays an important role in both the development and delivery of the expanding Discover programme.

Working as part of the Discover team, the NCH Discover Executive role includes departmental administration, project and event management, and departmental planning. The NCH Discover Executive supports the Discover functions within NCH to contribute to organisational targets and to implement the NCH’s Discover activity.

This role will focus on Discover projects in the Music Students and Musicians work stream, though duties in other work streams may also be assigned as required. The role will also carry substantial administrative duties.

The Role

Key responsibilities

The role of NCH Discover Executive is a key position in the Discover Team within the NCH and will be responsible for, but not limited to:

1.    Departmental Administration

  • Budget administration, invoicing, coordination of event feedback and evaluation systems, handling general enquiries, and dealing with day-to-day administrative duties.
  • The successful candidate will have excellent administrative capabilities, be highly organised, and will have a high degree of competency in relevant office IT systems.

2.    Project Management

  • The supervised management of certain agreed projects of a central importance to the Discover programme, the responsibility for which is commensurate with the level of seniority of the role.
  • This role will focus on projects in the Music Students and Musicians work stream, though projects in other work streams may also be assigned.
  • The successful candidate will have excellent attention to detail, a highly organised approach to their work, and the ability to balance multiple projects with competing deadlines.

3.    Event Management

  • Liaising with artists and facilitators, internal operations and coordinating with other NCH departments, publicity coordination, and the running of events on the ground both at the NCH and offsite where appropriate.
  • Providing administrative support for the above.

4.    Departmental Planning

  • Contributing to programme planning with the Head of Discover and Discover Manager in line with departmental strategic objectives.

5.    Organisational Requirements

  • To work towards the achievement of the NCH’s organisational goals.
  • To maintain the NCH’s high standard of customer care across all areas of organisational activity.
  • To use IT and digital applications to service the post’s administrative needs
  • To remain up to date with, and aware of, developments within the NCH and its work.
  • As the post requires handling, processing and recording of restricted information, confidentiality is required at all times.

Essential Requirements

The successful candidate must demonstrate evidence of:

  • Demonstrable administrative and office capabilities, including budget management.
  • Excellent written communications skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop strong relationships.
  • Understanding of the world of music, across a variety of genres.
  • Appreciation of the benefits of musical engagement for personal and societal development, particularly relating to music students and musicians.
  • A positive approach, and a commitment to upholding the NCH values of Respect, Integrity, Collaboration and Excellence.
  • Exceptional attention to detail in administrative and project management.
  • A self-starter, able to thrive in a demanding environment and foster cross-departmental collaboration with other NCH functions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an ability to overcome obstacles by seeking alternative solutions.
  • Proven abilities to develop administrative systems to improve office efficiency.
  • Excellent decision making and prioritisation capabilities.
  • A creative approach to the design and delivery of new projects and initiatives.
  • A 3rd level degree.

Desirable Requirements

The successful candidate may also demonstrate:

  • Experience working in the cultural sector, ideally with music.
  • Experience dealing with members of the public in an arts and culture, or services context.
  • An understanding of child protection legislation, and how it relates to the activities of the NCH.
