Step into a restorative weekend of creativity, connection and visual storytelling at Inish Beg Estate. Guided by award-winning Irish photographer Ruth Medjber, this immersive photography retreat offers a supportive, hands-on environment to build confidence, refine your skills and reconnect with your creative flow.
Whether you’re dusting off an old camera, moving beyond auto mode or looking to deepen your practice, Ruth’s down-to-earth teaching style makes photography accessible, playful and empowering. Across the weekend, you’ll explore the fundamentals of photography while developing your own visual voice – learning not just how to take photographs, but how to tell stories through them.
The retreat opens with an intimate Artist Spotlight session led by curator Laura Rigney, offering insight into Ruth’s creative process, influences and career, followed by an open Q&A. From there, guided sessions blend technical foundations with hands-on practice. You’ll learn how to confidently use manual mode, understand exposure, focus, and composition, and explore different photographic styles with intention.
Through immersive portrait and lighting sessions, you’ll work with both natural and studio light, learning how light shapes mood and meaning. Ruth will guide you through directing and photographing people with ease, using tools such as reflectors, LED lights, and studio flashes. The final session focuses on editing and finishing your work, introducing practical workflows in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, alongside guidance on sharing and presenting your images.
Set within the peaceful grounds of Inish Beg, the retreat encourages you to slow down and immerse yourself fully in creativity. Between sessions, enjoy time wandering woodland trails, relaxing by the indoor swimming pool, exploring the estate’s gardens, or taking an optional dip in the Atlantic – space to reflect, recharge, and be inspired.
This all-inclusive weekend includes accommodation at Inish Beg Estate, all teaching sessions and demonstrations, and nourishing meals prepared by Ballymaloe trained chef, Ophelia Keane of Carpa Dining.
No formal training required – just curiosity, creativity and a love of storytelling through photography.
Retreat fees range from €900–€1100 depending on room type, with options for private lodges, private rooms, and shared accommodation.
