Weekly play development workshop over 3 months
Are you an emerging writer with an early idea for theatre, radio or screen that you’re ready to move forward?
Meeting online Tuesdays 7-9m from March 21st-July 21st and led by director, dramaturg and playwright Alice Coghlan, and inspired by her twelve years as an Abbey Theatre Literary Reader, Wonderland Writer’s Room 2: The Quest is designed for emerging writers who want to move their ambitions for theatre, radio or screen forward in a supportive, focused and creative environment.
Using John Truby’s The Anatomy of Story as our guiding framework, we will shape and deepen your idea with purpose and direction. Our process is like that of a visual artist: filling a sketchbook before beginning the final painting. You may create a range of exploratory ‘sketches’—beat sheets, monologues, diary entries, images, collages—with the option to share up to 600 words weekly for thoughtful feedback.
Each writer will develop one new play or screenplay idea. By the end of the course, you will have a strong body of material—including a synopsis, treatment, beat sheet and scene samples—giving you clarity, momentum and a solid foundation for funding applications and a first draft.
Through this focused but gentle discipline, we will nurture the stories that matter most, encouraging and championing one another in a warm, creative space.
