Fishamble: The New Play Company and Irish Repertory Theatre in association with The Apollo, Harlem are seeking new applicants for the 2026/2027 Transatlantic Commissions Programme.
Selected participants will work under the mentorship of playwright/producer, and Director
of New Works at The Apollo, Kelley Girod to write new full-length plays. Additional
dramaturgical support will be offered by Gavin Kostick, Literary Manager at Fishamble, and
Nicola Murphy Dubey, Director of New Play Development at Irish Repertory Theatre.
The commission will culminate in public staged readings of the plays in Dublin and New
York.
Each writer will be paid a commission fee to be paid out in installments. The programme will
begin around April 2026, with first drafts due around early September and final drafts due
around early December 2026. Public stage readings are expected to occur in
Spring/Summer 2027. *

Who is eligible to apply?
• Black Irish writers and artists of colour
• Applicants must be current Irish Nationals and / or resident on the island of Ireland
